One For Arthur ridden by Derek Fox crosses the line to win the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree

Grand Nationwide hero One For Arthur has died aged 14, coach Lucinda Russell has confirmed.

One For Arthur made headlines at Aintree in 2017 by changing into the second Scottish-bred horse to win the world’s most well-known race.

The son of Milan has received seven of his 25 profession begins, clinching the 2017 Basic Chase at Warwick en path to Aintree.

In a press release on Twitter on Friday, Russell stated: “We’re unhappy to share that One For Arthur handed away this morning.

“A horse of a lifetime, he made our goals come true by profitable the Aintree Grand Nationwide in 2017.

“Arthur had a superb life on and off the monitor, and profitable at Aintree gave himself immortality. He will probably be missed.”

Scottish Racing added: “So unhappy to listen to that One For Arthur has handed away. He received the hearts of our nation along with his courageous run to victory within the Aintree Grand Nationwide in 2017.

“Our deepest condolences to the 2 widows of golf, Lucinda Russell, Derek Fox and all of the connections. He won’t ever be forgotten.”
